Volunteers at the Castlefields Collection Point

Wow!  Christmas Cardboard turned into an avalanche again showing just how much we need our kerbside service back.  Before Cardboard Saturday itself volunteers collected from  streets, schools and offices across town harvesting  two tonnes of cardboard from more than 250 homes.   And then on the big day itself 44 volunteers collected at least another 10 tonnes of cardboard at our four collection points.

People came on foot, by bike and disability scooter;  they pushed wheelbarrows and prams full of card;  they brought cardboard in their cars from their friends and neighbours.    The sun shone and there was a fantastic buzz created by volunteers who started the day as strangers and ended up as a close-knit team.    Cae Post’s compactor at the Red Barn Pub was so full not another scrap of cardboard could be fitted in it and Cwm Harry and Salopian Brewery’s vans made 7 trips to Pink Skips at Telford.   A fantastic community effort.

We’ll keep you posted on how much was raised and how Ludlow’s Cardboard Christmas went, but here are the first pictures in the meantime. Scroll down for our guide on how to keep cardboard out of landfill.
