2011 has seen the Coton Community Allotments come to fruition! The Coton Community Allotment Association has been formed to run the new allotments on Corporation Lane. The Association is renting half a hectare of land from a local landowner, Berwick Estate. The lease has been agreed for 9 years. The allotments have been awarded funding through the Local Joint Committee to the tune of £10000. Over the summer there have been various work days and a few individual members have worked hard at other times to clear the site. The money has now been released and the site is now nearly fenced, the access is nearly finished, the hard standing has gone in for the communal shed and the water supply is on.
The works should be finished by the end of this month Oct 2011 and then the individual plots will be marked out. There are expected to be a total of 40 x 50 square metre plots. Part of the site is to be set aside to become a community garden and hopefully local children will get involved.
