Shrewsbury Friends of the Earth
Campaign nationally and locally on environmental issues. Current local campaigns include trying to stop the incinerator at Battlefield, asking shops to keep their doors shut in winter, and persuading customers of the Market Hall to carry re-usable bags. We are also starting a campaign in Underdale and Monkmoor, to publicise and persuade people to use the Government’s home insulation help.
Nationally, FoE were part of the ‘Big Ask’ which persuaded the Government to sign up to binding carbon dioxide emissions in an attempt to stop climate change.
This year, one of the areas we will be focussing on is the Food Chain and the effect of intensive agriculture.
Marches Energy Agency (MEA)
Is one of the UK’s leading sustainable energy and climate change social enterprises and a registered charity. Created in 1995 MEA strives in all of its work to “create the climate for change” and has a wealth of experience in delivering local, regional, and European projects.
Our aim is to encourage three D’s – Demand reduction (using less), Decarbonisation (low carbon sources of energy) and Decentralisation (more local energy production and supply).
SevernLETS
Is a community skills barter. You can list offers and wants, plus how many (ficticious currency) $Shrews you want per hour. If you need someone to help you, you can find them and agree a trade. You don’t have to reciprocate with the same person, and you don’t have to have Shrews to start trading.
Keep Shropshire Warm
Aims to help people, especially those in fuel poverty (more than 10% income spent on fuel) to access Government help to provide insulation.
Just Credit Union
Puts people first and promotes the value of voluntary and community development. In helping to encourage local economic regeneration it can help in starting to address issues of financial exclusion which often leads to social exclusion and can empower individuals and local communities to take control of their financial services and to promote local social entrepreneurs.

Beekeepers
Changes to the environment and the unstoppable spread of the Varroa parasite mean that the once common sight of bees on flowers has largely disappeared. Practical and theory courses on beekeeping are offered throughout the year. www.shropshirebees.co.uk
